Renewal FAQs

When will I receive my renewal invite?

We will send you your renewal invite in good time before your current policy is due to end – this invite will contain all the information you need for your renewal, including your price for the next year. This will be sent to the email address we have on file for you, so make sure you have access to it – if not, you can change your email address on your online account.

If it’s approaching your policy end date and you still haven’t heard from us, make sure that you check your junk folder in case it’s gone in there. If you still can’t find it, get in touch and we’ll look into it for you.

Your renewal invite will remind you whether you’re opted in or out of automatic renewal this year.

Will my insurance policy automatically renew?

If you haven’t opted out of automatic renewals either when you purchased your policy with us or throughout the policy year, your policy will automatically renew. Don’t worry – we’ll send you a renewal invite in plenty of time before your renewal due date, so you know your renewal price and can decide whether you’re happy to renew. If you decide not to renew after you’ve received your invite, you just need to log in to your online account to cancel your renewal. Please note, we’ll apply for payment up to 4 days before your renewal date if you’re paying for your renewal in full, or one day before if you’re paying by instalments to ensure you have continuous insurance cover in place, so make sure to let us know before this point that you don’t want to renew to avoid any money coming out of your account.

If you’ve chosen to opt-out of automatic renewals this year, you will need to contact us to renew your policy for another year.

How do I renew my policy?

If you are happy with the invite we send you and you’re opted-in to automatic renewals, it’s easy to renew. We’ll renew your policy ready for your renewal date, so you don’t have to do anything.

If you have chosen not to allow your policy to automatically renew, but you’re happy with your price and would like to stay with us, you’ll need to contact us to renew. Click here for all of the best ways to contact us.

How do I stop my policy from renewing automatically?

If you don’t want your policy to automatically renew, just log in to your online account and select the ‘cancel renewal’ button.

How much will my renewal be?

We’ll tell you on your renewal documentation the total cost to renew your policy, as well as showing your annual insurance premium and the total annual price for any optional extras – you’ll receive this information in good time before the end of your current policy. We’ll also give you last year’s premium based on the latest details we hold for you so you’re able to compare.

If you would like to stay with us and your details are correct, if you’ve chosen to automatically renew you don’t need to do anything. We’ll automatically renew your policy for you. If you’ve chosen not to allow your policy to automatically renew, we’ll let you know when we write to you, including instructions for what you will need to do.

Why is my renewal price higher than previous years?

There are many reasons for why your premium may have increased from year to year. These may include:

  • If you’ve had a claim, as your no claims discount may have reduced.
  • Any changes to your circumstances from one year to another - for example, change of vehicle, address or drivers.

We and our insurers also continuously review our prices and underwriting criteria in our effort to offer the best value we can to customers. This means that prices may rise and fall even in the absence of claims or changes to your policy details.

How is my last year’s premium calculated on my renewal invitation?

If you’ve made no changes to your policy from last year, the figure given as your premium last year will show as the price you paid for your policy, minus any interest paid on instalments.

If you have made any changes to your policy, we’ll calculate what your premium would have been last year with these changes in place and use this figure as your last year’s premium, minus any interest paid on instalments.

What happens when my car insurance is renewed, and a claim is still not settled?

Depending on the type of claim you’ve made, we’ll adjust your premium and no claims discount accordingly.

When your claim is settled, we may refund some of your premium and re-adjust your no claims discount record.

What is a renewal fee?

We charge this fee when you renew your policy to cover costs related to continuing your policy for a new year.

How much is the fee?

The fee is £60 each year you renew your policy, and will be included in your overall renewal price.
